We are proud to announce Adventure Tours UK is now B Corp™ Certified, joining a growing group of companies who are reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
From the very beginning, our mission has been simple and honest. A commitment that we will always do our best by you, our communities and the world we live in. We’re delighted that as a newly certified B Corp™ company, we continue to affirm that travel can be a force for good.
We are proud to share the UK’s wildest spaces with travellers from around the world and have always strived to do this with as positive an impact as possible on the communities and places we visit, while providing a fair and equitable workplace for our team. Achieving certification as a B Corp™ is a globally-recognised mark of our efforts and the beginning of the next stage of our journey as we continue to make travel better for everyone.
What is a B Corp™?
The B Corp™ certification addresses the entirety of a business’s operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company has legally embedded its commitment to purpose beyond profit within its company articles.
How do we measure up?
Based on the B Impact Assessment, Adventure Tours UK earned an overall score of 80.7. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9. This is great news for us and also motivates us to continue working to keep growing in order to increase our score.
Why did we apply for B Corp™ certification?
Responsible travel is at our core
From the very beginning Adventure Tours UK was created with three key values: Responsibility, Authenticity and Inspiration.
These values came about from our own personal love for the places we take our guests to and the recognition that sharing them meant taking great care in also protecting them so they remain amazing places. This all fed into why we provide travel for individuals and small groups of like-minded travellers, not coach loads of tourists!
We’ve had our single-use plastic-free commitment in place from the beginning, along with our commitment to work with local independently-owned businesses to support the local economy by retaining tourism spending within the region guests visit.
After signing the Glasgow Declaration in 2021, carbon reduction has become a key focus, aiming to become Net Zero by 2030. We then went on to have initiatives such as supporting Trash Free Trails as our charity of the year.
The process of becoming B Corp™ is not simple or easy, which is why we applied! Throughout the certification process, we had every corner of the business inspected.
It’s this level of independent scrutiny that makes B Corp™certification so crucial in a world where many businesses talk the ethical and sustainable talk, without actually walking the walk.
The ‘B’ in B Corp™ stands for Benefit for All, and this is crucial. Its aim is to recognise purpose-driven businesses committed to being a holistic force for good for all people, communities, and the planet. We are delighted to be a part of this mission.
