Am I financially protected?

As part of our compliance with the Package Travel Regulations, we are members of the Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust Limited (ABTOT). This means that in the unlikely event of our insolvency, money you have spent on a package holiday booked with us but not yet taken, would be protected financially. It also means that if this happened whilst you were on a trip with us, you would have access to ABTOT’s 24/7 support services, designed to help ABTOT members’ customers in times of financial failure. Please note that bookings made outside the UK will not be protected by ABTOT with Adventure Tours U.K. Ltd. Please refer to section 17 of our Booking Terms for full details or visit ABTOT.

What does fully supported mean?

When we talk about fully-supported adventures, this means we’ve made everything as simple as possible for you. We take care of your accommodation for the duration of your trip and provide all the transport you need within the UK. We also make all the arrangements necessary for your chosen activities. So whether you’re on a multi-activity adventure taking on a different challenge each day, or you’re focusing on one specific activity, we’ll make sure everything is set up to run smoothly. Leaving you free to lose yourself in moments of exhilaration, discovery and experience.

What should I do about flights?

If you’re booking your flight in advance, please make sure you check their cancellation policy. Some of our trips do require a minimum number of guests before they’re guaranteed to run, so whilst we do all we can to ensure trips go ahead, there can be a small risk that we have to offer you an alternative date. We generally recommend you hold off booking flights until within 30 days of your trip date.
If you book a fully tailored adventure for your own private group, we’ll work with you to agree the best flight times to get the most out of your time with us.

What if I’m travelling from within the UK?

If you plan to arrive by train, please check the Getting Here section of your tour page or contact us for information on the closest main line station to your tour start location. You’re welcome to arrange your own transfers or we can make arrangements on your behalf if preferred.
If you plan to drive and need a suitable location to leave your car for the duration of your stay, please contact our team for recommendations on the best location to head for.
We also have a Facebook group where you can arrange lift shares with other travellers to minimise cost and carbon footprint.

How fit do I need to be?

As with most things in the great outdoors, all of our adventures require some level of physical effort. But to ensure as many people as possible can enjoy an Adventure Tours UK experience, we have crafted a range of trips, each requiring a different level of physicality.
We use a three-tier grading, indicated on each experience as a mountain graphic. We take into account the type and frequency of exertion on the trip, as well as the overall trip duration.

1 = anyone with a reasonable level of fitness, for example you’re able to walk energetically for 1-2 hours, should be able to take part
2 = a moderate level of fitness is required. Exercising is a regular part of your lifestyle, for example running, cycling or energetic walking each week, and you’re confident of being able to sustain a moderate level of activity for several consecutive days
3 = a high level of physical fitness. You will probably be exercising at least 2-3 times per week as part of your regular lifestyle and you’re confident of being able to sustain a moderate to high level of activity for several consecutive days

How much skill do I need to have?

When it comes to our multi-activity adventures, not much! We’ve carefully crafted these to give you a taste of many new experiences, so there’s no expectation that you will have any existing skill in them. All you need to do is find the adventure that suits your level of physical fitness, and come with an open mind to learn new skills!
Our speciality adventures are a little different. These trips, whether guided or self-guided, assume you have a certain level of experience, knowledge and skill in your chosen activity. The overview for each adventure includes an indication of the level of experience required. Please read this carefully and if you’re unsure about its suitability for you, simply contact us. Our team will help you find your best adventure.

How many other people will be in my group?

We believe in small group travel. We feel this allows you to have the best and most authentic experience possible: enough like-minded adventurers that you can make new friends and share experiences, but not so many that you feel like one of the herd.
We also strongly believe that small groups are better for the areas you travel to. Nothing makes a small village or town feel less like its usual self, than a coach-load of tourists descending upon it! So we keep it small, to keep it real.
Typically our groups are between 8 and 15 people. Of course when we’re dealing with specific activities such as mountain biking or hiking, we always work within the recognised guiding ratios. So for example, our mountain bike adventures will never exceed 8 guests in total.
You can read more about small group travel in our blog.

Are your adventures suitable for children?

Currently most of our adventure packages are aimed at adults aged 18 years or over. This is partly because many activities have height or age restrictions and we found that trying to factor this in when crafting our experiences, limited what we could include. Our aim is to deliver the best of the best in each region, so we weren’t comfortable with compromising the activities we could offer. We also recognise that many people prefer not to travel with children, so opening up every adventure to all ages isn’t necessarily the right thing to do anyway.
We now offer family-specific adventures like Family Adventure North Wales. This trip is a fantastic opportunity to deep dive into all the exciting activities North Wales has to offer and meet other like-minded families along the way.
If your family have specific requirements or would prefer to travel alone, why not go for a tailored private group holiday for your family? Our team of adventure specialists would be delighted to arrange a personal experience, designed around you and yours.

Where in the UK do you offer adventures?

Currently we run trips in Scotland, Wales and England. We’re spoiled for choice here in the UK with tonnes of outdoor activities, many of them world-class, and the most incredible wild spaces where you can lose yourself and find yourself over and over again. We have a deep passion for the natural beauty of the UK and we are proud to be able to share it with you. From the northernmost point of Caithness in Scotland, to the southernmost tip of Cornwall in England, we’re busy working on new ideas for adventurers like you. Keep checking back to see our new adventures, or better still, sign up for our newsletter and we’ll keep you posted.

Do you offer adventures in Ireland?

Currently we don’t run any trips in Ireland, however our trusted partners at Vagabond Tours of Ireland do.
As Ireland’s No.1 small-group tour operator, and a fellow member of the Adventure Travel Trade Association, you’ll be in safe hands. Their guided small-group tours combine authentic local experiences with amazing tour guides, unique vehicles and a responsible tourism ethos.
If you are interested in including Ireland in your UK travels, we highly recommend that you visit their website: https://vagabondtoursofireland.com/ to find out more.

I’m traveling alone, do I have to pay a single supplement?

Absolutely not, we welcome adventurers of all kinds. Whether you’re travelling solo, with your partner or with your friends, everyone has the same opportunity to discover new experiences with us. All of our accommodation is priced on a shared basis so, as a solo traveller we’ll match you up with a like-minded, same-gender travel partner. You’ll both benefit from avoiding unnecessary single supplement charges and you might just spark up a friendship that lasts beyond the length of your trip.
Of course, if you do prefer to have your own private room, that can usually be accommodated. If it’s a room for one, please just be aware that there will probably be an extra cost for this. Check your preferred adventure for details or contact our team to find out more.

What if COVID-19 affects my ability to travel?

If your adventure plans are affected by COVID-19, we will support you in achieving your travel plans at a later, more suitable date. If we’re unable to run your trip on your chosen date, we will offer you an alternative date, an alternative trip or a full immediate refund.  And if the trip is going ahead as planned but you find yourself unable to travel, with just 30 days notice we offer the flexibility to re-book on any of our adventures.
For all other unforeseen circumstances that could occur closer to your travel date, from covid to a family emergency or even a broken leg, we recommend you take out quality travel insurance at the time of booking to ensure you’re fully protected.

At Adventure Tours UK, we set out to create the kind of breaks people like us go wild for. People who get their thrills in the outdoors and want to care for it too. Who want to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with nature. If you’re in search of adventure, you’ll find it with us.
