Our Safe & Responsible Return to Adventures
Now, more than ever, our priority is the safety of you, our staff, our partner suppliers and our communities. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to provide a responsible return to safe travel. Our company-wide health & safety policies have been revisited and updated where needed. And every adventure is risk assessed with COVID-19 in mind.
At every step of the way, we closely follow the industry-recognised guidance from the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Safe Travels protocols for tour operators and recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO), as well as working in accordance with the UK and Welsh Governments’ guidance and regulations. Our risk assessments are carried out in line with the adventure travel-specific recommendations from the Adventure Travel Trade Association. These are live documents, continually reviewed and refreshed as Government guidance is updated.
We have also been recognised with the WTTC’s Safe Travels stamp, so you really are in safe hands.
Safe Travels: Frequently Asked Questions
Am I able to visit Wales?
We continually monitor the Welsh Government’s announcements and advice to ensure that we are fully compliant with the latest guidance and regulations. Like all businesses at this challenging time, we have to be flexible and quick to adapt to the changing situation. We always endeavour to be clear with the current travel situation on our website but if you have any questions at all before you book or about an existing booking, please don’t hesitate to contact our team.

What are you doing to ensure your trips are safe?
We undertake a COVID-19 risk assessment for each tour approximately 2 weeks prior to departure to ensure the assessment is based on the Welsh government guidelines that will be in place at the time of the tour. This enables us to determine which trips are suitable to go ahead under current restrictions and what modifications may be needed to ensure guest, staff and community safety. Alongside this we review the risk assessments of our partner suppliers to ensure they too are fully compliant with industry standards for the prevention of the spread of the virus.
Where appropriate we may reduce the maximum group size of a trip and / or we may increase the size of vehicle required to transport groups, as well as limiting the travel time needed if it cannot be eliminated altogether.
We ask all our guests and key tour staff to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to joining the trip.
How do I show proof of a negative lateral flow test for my adventure?
We ask that you provide proof of a negative COVID-19 lateral flow test taken no more than 24 hours prior to the start of your trip, or a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to your trip. It’s up to you which one you choose.
Your Tour Leader will need to see your test results on the first day of your trip – simply show them the results text or email you receive after submitting your lateral flow test online.
Will I have to share a room?
Our small group tours are planned on a shared room basis, unless stated otherwise. Typically this is a twin share room in hotels, though for some specific trips the accommodation is on a multi-bed basis. This will always be offered in accordance with the government guidance in place at the time of the tour. Private rooms / tents are often available by prior arrangement for a single supplement.
Full details for each tour are provided in the What You Need to Know section of the trip. Please enquire about availability if you prefer to have your own space.
Will there be any changes to my trip because of COVID-19?
Part of our risk assessment process is to consider what adjustments may need to be made for a trip to be deemed safe to go ahead. Only when no or minor adjustments are needed will we determine a trip safe to proceed. Our website is updated on an ongoing basis to reflect any such changes to ensure safe travels and if you have already booked you will be notified of any change to the itinerary prior to departure.
Will I be required to wear a mask?
The guidance around the wearing of face masks varies between the four nations of the UK. If you’re unsure whether you’ll need to pack a face covering, please get in touch prior to your departure.
What happens if I or someone in our group shows symptoms during the trip?
If you or anyone on your escorted small group tour develops symptoms of COVID-19 during the trip, they will be advised to self-isolate away from the group while a test is requested. If COVID-19 is confirmed, the group will be made aware of the potential exposure and the affected guest will be asked to curtail their trip.
If you are travelling independently on a tailor-made adventure, please notify your Adventure Tours UK emergency contact straight away so that we may assist with requesting a test and help you with understanding the guidance at your destination.
What happens if Wales / my destination is under local lockdown?
If the situation in Wales or the localised area of your trip destination is affected by a flare up of the virus and travel restrictions are imposed by the Welsh or UK Government rendering it impossible for us to honour your trip, we will issue a cancellation.
What happens if my local area goes into lockdown and I am unable to travel?
If you are unable to take part in the trip but it is possible for the trip itself to go ahead, please seek advice from your own travel insurance provider. Even if you are resident within the UK, it is always strongly recommend you take out appropriate travel insurance in case of situations like this. Please check with your travel insurer to make sure they are providing cover for claims related to COVID-19.
It is your responsibility to ensure you are content with the level of cover your insurer provides. This Which? article shares some great information on the level of cover available from over 70 insurers in the UK.
